As McCain stumbled, Obama stood tall

Said Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California: "Tonight the American people have called for a new direction. They have called for change in America."

As the 44th president, Obama, stood in front of a crowd of thousands of supporters, the nations millions, the world, and his people and spoke the truth. The world truly stood still as we inhaled the joy it is to be happy.

"You can't be anything but joyful. Obama is going to change the world," said Jeff Mann, 51, a construction worker in Harlem.

The popular vote was close, but not the count in the Electoral College, where it mattered most. There, Obama's audacious decision to contest McCain in states that hadn't gone Democratic in years paid rich dividends.

"Unless something staggering happens, it's hard to see how [McCain] gets to 270," said George Stephanopoulos, ABC News' chief Washington correspondent, when it became clear that Obama would win Ohio, significantly decreasing Sen. John McCain's chances of securing the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

Race didn’t turn out to be much of a factor in the historic election of Barack Obama. And that’s a good thing. But it’s the new reality — a black president — and aside from the bitterness of any white Americans who may feel somehow dispossessed after 43 straight white guys in the White House, the Obama presidency could be a remarkable avenue toward that goal of an America that has gotten past race.

NICOLAS SARKOZY, FRENCH PRESIDENT

"With the world in turmoil and doubt, the American people, faithful to the values that have always defined America's identity, have expressed with force their faith in progress and the future. "At a time when we must face huge challenges together, your election has raised enormous hope in France, in Europe and beyond. France and Europe ... will find a new energy to work with America to persevere peace and world prosperity."

I End this on words from Our 44th Prez:

"If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists - to protect them and to promote their common welfare - all else is lost."
Barack Obama

Good Night or Good Morning and God Bless!
